NEW DELHI: The Election Commission has fixed Rs.70 lakhs as price of 208 items to be used by political parties and candidates
On April 18, election for the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies and 18 assembly constituencies will be held in Tamil Nadu. The Election Code of Conduct is also in force.
In this regard, the Election Commission has fixed a price for 208 items used by political parties and candidates. The candidate contesting in the Lok Sabha election can spend a maximum of Rs.70 lakhs only. The list includes vehicles, staff, electronic devices, food items, banners, posters, flags and flex. A maximum of Rs.9300 per day for double AC bedrooms in 5 star hotels and up to Rs.5800 for 3 star hotels are permitted.
The price list for other items include: A plate of mutton biriyani at Rs.200, chicken biryani at Rs.180, meals at Rs.100, tiffin at Rs.100, tea at Rs.10, milk at Rs.15, vegetable rice at Rs.50, coconut water at Rs.40, pumpkin at Rs.120, sari at Rs. 200 and T-shirt at Rs.175, respectively.
Since the usage of electronic equipment, LED Screen and AC has increased, there is no doubt that the campaign cost for the coming elections will be expensive than before. Hence the price fixed for the same are: Rent for wall sized LED - Rs.12,000 for eight hours, rent for marriage hall booking should be between Rs.2,000 to Rs.6,000, per day.
The Election Commission has appointed expenditure monitors for every constituency. Candidates and party members have been ordered to record the video of the campaigns too.
