People carrying over Rs 50,000 in cash should hold proper documents - District Election Officer

Coimbatore: In view of upcoming Lok Sabha election to be held on April 18, 2019 in Coimbatore, 180 officials under flying squad head and 30 teams comprising of 150 officials, under monitoring team head will carry out search operations 24/7 in the district, said a release from the Collectorate.

Coimbatore: In view of upcoming Lok Sabha election to be held on April 18, 2019 in Coimbatore, 180 officials under flying squad head and 30 teams comprising of 150 officials, under monitoring team head will carry out search operations 24/7 in the district, said a release from the Collectorate. 

The release further added that 30 flying squads, 30 static teams have been deployed for 24/7 hours surveillance. And, 20 video surveillance teams have been appointed to monitor, if public meeting and rallies violate the model code of conduct.

With the model code of conduct in force, the Election Commission is tightening its grip over illegal money transactions during the elections. 

People carrying more than Rs. 50,000 are advised to carry proper documents/bills, failing to produce documents, the officers of flying squad will confiscate the cash and hand over the same to the treasury. And, if the cash amount exceeds Rs.10 lakh, the same would be handed over to the Income tax department. 

So far, the election flying squad have seized Rs.45,69, 780 between March 11 to 18. Also, 588 liquor bottles, one air pistol has been handed over to the respective police station in the district.
