Coimbatore: Traffic was affected for a brief time in Puliyakulam main road, as more than 50 women staged a road roko alleging supply of contaminated drinking water in their area.
Enraged by the inaction of the Corporation to set right the faulty drinking pipeline, the women with empty pots staged a road roko on Monday.
The irked residents pointed that for the past four months, the water supplied to their is contaminated due to mixing of sewage water.
"Due to the contamination, the children and the elderly are subjected to frequent ailments like fever and diarrhea", they lamented.
They also added that even after bringing this issue to the notice of the concerned officials, no action was taken.
"The corporation workers pretend to repair the water pipelines by digging pits in the roads but the issue has not been resolved", they added.
During the road roko, the women raised slogans condemning the corporation and warned to intemaify their protests. Upon assurance given by Ramanathapuraam police, they withdrew the protest.
