According to reliable sources, C.P. Radhakrishnan who is currently the chairman of Coir board and two-time MP from Coimbatore has been finalised as the BJP electoral candidate for Coimbatore constituency.
Coimbatore: According to reliable sources, C.P. Radhakrishnan who is currently the chairman of Coir board and two-time MP from Coimbatore has been finalised as the BJP electoral candidate for Coimbatore constituency.
A high level meeting was held in Madurai to finalise the candidates for the five Constituency on Saturday, in which BJP will be contesting. Piyush V Goyal, Minister of Railways and Coal was present during the meet.
Vanathi Srinivasan, C.P. Radhakrishnan and Prof. Kanagasabapathy from Coimbatore took part in the final round of talks, after which CP Radhakrishnan has been finalised as the candidate, say party sources.
Now, in all likeliness C.P. Radhakrishnan will contest against P.R. Natarajan of CPI (M) who won in 2009 elections. As both candidates have won in the region, political experts opine that the race could be very close.
About C.P. Radhakrishnan
Born in 1957, he is a two-time member of the Lok Sabha. He won on a BJP ticket in the 1998 and 1999 general elections in the aftermath of the 1998 Coimbatore bombings. He won by a margin of over 150,000 votes in 1998 which was reduced to a margin of 55,000 in the 1999 elections.
He is also the former state president of the party for Tamil Nadu. Currently, he is the Chairman of Coir Board, which comes under Ministry of MSME.
