Coimbatore : In the wake of the gruesome Pollachi sexual abuse racket that has created a furore in the state of Tamil Nadu, the police has created a new division to protect the rights of women and the girl child.
Coimbatore : In the wake of the gruesome Pollachi sexual abuse racket that has created a furore in the state of Tamil Nadu, the police has created a new division to protect the rights of women and the girl child.
In the new police wing, three Superintendents of Police will be appointed under one DGP. This special wing of the police will monitor the atrocities and sexual abuse cases against women and girl children, with the help of the CBI and Interpol. They will create a database of the crimes against women and girl children, and also of the criminals.
The police had earlier arrested the prime accused in the Pollachi sexual abuse case under the Goondas Act. Due to discrepancies in the way the case was being handled by the police, the case was handed over to the CB-CID and now to the CBI, owing to suspicion of involvement by political leaders.
The case triggered a hue and cry on social media and amongst the public about the continuous onslaught of sexual abuse against women in the country, and now in Tamil Nadu which was earlier known as a State which was a safe haven for women. It is commendable that the TN policce have woken up to the grim reality for the need of a special wing in the police division to combat abuse against women and girl children.
