Coimbatore : In an attempt to help the winged visitors at the dried up Chinnavedapatti Lake during summer, volunteers of the Save Chinnavedapatti Lake Organisation have installed small water trays to help them beat the heat this summer.
Coimbatore : In an attempt to help the winged visitors at the dried up Chinnavedapatti Lake during summer, volunteers of the Save Chinnavedapatti Lake Organisation have installed small water trays to help them beat the heat this summer.
As many six such trays have been kept in the plantation area of the lake, where fruiting trees have been planted.
The trays would be regularly refilled by the volunteers to help the birds during the summer.
According to P.K. Selvaraj from the organisation, despite not holding enough water to help waders and other water birds, the fruiting plants planted at lakeside have been welcoming an array of song birds.
“We have counted more than 50 birds in the previous bird count around the lake and their movement is high near the plantation. They also help in spreading seeds,” he said.
He further added that more saplings of fruit bearing trees would be planted along the lake to help the birds.
In addition to the trays, water pots have also been hung from trees.
The saplings have also been guarded using fences to help protect from cattle.
