CB-CID asks popular social platforms to remove videos related to Pollachi case

Coimbatore : The CB-CID has sent letters to Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube asking them to remove videos related to the Pollachi sexual abuse case.

Coimbatore : The CB-CID has sent letters to Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube asking them to remove videos related to the Pollachi sexual abuse case.

In the past week, videos related to the Pollachi sexual abuse case has been going viral on social network platforms. With regard to this, Ilamugil from Trichy filed a welfare petition stating that the future of the victims could be at risk owing to the videos that were going viral on social media with the victim's names being exposed in the case file.

Ilamugil insisted in his petition that the name and all videos related to the victims of the sexual abuse be removed from all social networks. The case was heard yesterday before Magistrates Kirubakaran and Sundar. The judges then ordered all videos and photos of the Pollachi incident to be removed from social network platforms. 

Following this, the CB-CID sent letters to Facebook, WhatsApp and YouTube asking them to remove immediately all videos related to the Pollachi sexual abuse case and thus curb them from being spread anymore. CB-CID has also insisted that information about those who posted these videos online ought to be shared with them.

The Tamil Nadu government has presently transferred the Pollachi sexual abuse and blackmail case to the CBI following a proposal by the TN DGP, T K Rajendran who wanted the central agency to handle the case, since the crime was extremely serious and called for laborious and dedicated investigation with technical expertise.
