The police refused to allow the protesting TMMK cadres to proceed since the protest did not have proper police authorization. A heated exchange broke out between the police and the protestors on account of this. The demonstrators then proceeded to block the road by a sit-in dharna, following which the police had to arrest them. Tension prevailed for a while in the vicinity of the protest.
