Coimbatore : Toiling hard for more than 36 hours, foresters and volunteers who were involved in putting out the massive forest fire in Maruthamalai hills of the Coimbatore Forest Range, were finally able to bring it completely under control around late evening on Friday.
Coimbatore : Toiling hard for more than 36 hours, foresters and volunteers who were involved in putting out the massive forest fire in Maruthamalai hills of the Coimbatore Forest Range, were finally able to bring it completely under control around late evening on Friday.
It took more than 50 men and additional volunteers who took supplies to the main team to fight the fire that started around Thursday evening.
The fire spread to the Bolampatti Block III forest from a patta land nearby and burnt more than 100 acres of forest land. It reached close to the Maruthamalai temple on Friday morning.
Though larger mammals were not killed in the fire, smaller mammals and reptiles could have been largely affected and even killed, which can be ascertained only later.
The team that was involved in fighting the fire in the scorching sun were provided with necessary food and water by the volunteers from #C4TN. They were also provided with torch lights and power banks to help keep their phones alive so that they could communicate with each other.
The team was being largely appreciated by people from all corners of Coimbatore.
Meanwhile, another massive fire that broke out near Thekkaalur at Anaikatti in the same Coimbatore Range on Friday was still on. Efforts were being made to put it out.
