Coimbatore : The Madurai High Court Justice, Kirubakaran and Sundar has ordered to initiate action against SP Pandiarajan for carelessly handling the Pollachi sexual abuse case.
He also ordered the State government to grant Rs.25 lakhs compensation for the complainant whose name was released in public by the SP and the Tamil Nadu State Government, thrice in a row.
The high court also pointed that SP Pandiarajan had violated the Supreme Court's order and has release the name of the complainant. And, in a press release on March 11, the SP assured that apart from the four accused detained in the case, none were connected to the case.
The SP also warned the press and public to refrain from spreading information connecting political leaders or their heirs in the Pollachi case. He also noted that only 4 videos were seized from the accused.
His controversial statement widely triggered suspicion among the people and political parties. Since then, people lost faith on the Police department and demanded to transfer the case to CBI.
And, protests erupted in Coimbatore and Pollachi urging stern action on the erring SP Pandiarajan. The protestors also demanded to immediately transfer the 'callous' officer from Coimbatore.
It is to be noted that SP Pandiarajan was promoted from DSP to SP, after slapping a woman who was part of a protest in Palladam, in April 2017. Though protests erupted across Tamil Nadu for his unruly behaviour, the State government surprised the citizens by awarding him a promotion to Coimbatore instead of de-promoting him.
