Who is PR Natarajan - the MP candidate for Coimbatore from DMK Alliance?

P R Natarajan (68), former Member of Parliament and CPM District Executive Committee member will be competing in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections in Coimbatore.


P R Natarajan (68), former Member of Parliament and CPM District Executive Committee member will be competing in the forthcoming Lok Sabha Elections in Coimbatore.

P R Natarajan joined politics while in college and became the Chairman of the Indian Students Association. Later, he was appointed as the District President of the Indian Democratic Youth Association and is known for fighting for the rights of youth. In 1968, he joined the Marxist Party and became an MP from the Coimbatore constituency. He was also an MLA several times. 

P R Natarajan is married to Vanaja, the elder daughter of the Communist Party's senior union leader K Ramani. He was District Secretary of the party for 10 years. He is also a member of the party's state committee. 

A full-time employee of the party from 1977, for 42 years, P R Natarajan continues to fight for the basic rights and pressing issues of the people of Coimbatore District, as well as for the rights of the working class. 

He is known to be a favorite of the workers and labourers in Coimbatore. P R Natarajan has worked as a district head of the Cleaners Union and the Workers Union, and has worked effectively for the rights of workers.

During his five-year tenure as MP, P R Natarajan raised the standard of the Coimbatore Railway station and introduced 11 new trains. He fought successfully for the halting of several trains at Coimbatore station, by personally going to Palakkad. This victory was appreciated by Coimbatore's industrialists, traders and also by the people of Kerala. 

The second subway, escalator and lift facilities at the Coimbatore railway station was completed during his tenure. The compensation for people who provided the land for the Bharathiar University was long pending and as a result of his initiative, the first phase of compensation to the tune of Rs.42 crores was finally awarded. 

The 800-crore ESI Medical College and increased wages for the Sugarcane Research Staff, National Textile Corporation workers and state printers are accredited to him.

P R Natarajan's tenure as MP also saw Rs.19 crores allocated to the development of the entire population and the development of social welfare centers in his constituency. The Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital was also upgraded. 

Eight bridges in the Coimbatore Metropolis were approved and will be completed in time as a result of his efforts to solve the city's traffic problems. While still a Member of Parliament, P R Natarajan was also in the Standing Committee on Labor, Information Technology and Industry. He also served as a member in the Petroleum and Natural Gas Corporation's top advisory board.
