Chennai: The Naam Tamilar party has been allotted the 'Sugarcane Farmer' symbol' (Karumbu Vivasaayi) to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The Election Commission (EC) has alloted this symbol to the Naam Tamilar party after denying the 'Twin Candles' symbol which was requested by Seeman's NTK since the Twin Candles symbol was allotted to a party in Meghalaya.
Since the day the EC had announced election dates for 2019 parliamentary elections, electoral work by political parties are on at a brisk pace. Seeman's party will now contest this election with the 'Sugarcane farmer' symbol, though Seeman is yet to announce his list of candidates contesting in all 40 constituencies.
Earlier, Seeman had announced that the party will face this Lok Sabha election alone in all the 40 constituencies including the lone Puducherry seat. He also stated that 50 percent of seats will be given to women candidates. As per unofficial sources, women candidates are likely to contest in Pollachi and Nilgiris consistuencies. The official release from the party has stated that the party symbol will be introduced on March 19 at the Chennai Press Club in Chepauk, Chennai.
