The Nilgiris: An official announcement has been made that the DMK will contest in the Nilgiris constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Among the 40 constituencies in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, DMK is to contest in 20 constituencies, with 10 seats allotted for Congress and 2 seats each for CPI (M), CPM, VCK and one seat each for MDMK, Indian Union Muslim League, Kongu Nadu Makkal Katchi and India Jananayaga Katchi. A meeting on constituency allotment for the allies of DMK is taking place at the DMK headquarters in Anna Arivalayam, in Chennai.
Meanwhile, an official announcement of constituencies to be contested by the DMK, Congress and its other allies has been released.
Though earlier it was speculated that BJP in alliance with AIADMK will contest in the Nilgiris, now it has been confirmed that BJP will contest in Coimbatore, Sivakasi, Kanyakumari, Tuticorin and Ramanadhapuram constituencies. Hence, AIADMK will contest in the Nilgiris constituency.
Subsequently, sources revealed that Logesh, son of speaker Dhanapal of AIADMK could contest in the Nilgiris.
If DMK fields A Raja in the Nilgiris constituency, both parties are assumed to be at par which could result in a marginal vote percentage difference between the DMK and the AIADMK.
