Coimbatore : A total of 30 teams, comprising of three teams per constituency has been formed under the purview of the District Collector who is the Chief Election Officer for Coimbatore Constituency which has ten constituencies.
According to a statement from the Chief Election Officer, "Two team per constituency has been dedicated for every constituency for monitoring political meetings and campaigns. The team will monitor and report violations which are against the Model Code of Conduct.” He also requested the public to keep proper documents and bills for carrying cash above Rs.50,0000.
“In an inspection conducted today by the flying squad, Rs.3,00,000 and Rs.2,47,500 cash was confiscated from Coimbatore and Valparai constituencies. The confiscated cash has been handed over to the treasury department. If the cash is more than Rs.10,00,000, the amount will be handed over to the Election Commission,” he noted.
The District Collector also mentioned that 354 illegal liquor bottles were seized from Kalaipuram, Pollachi on Thursday. The election flying squad and all special teams are expected to work on three shifts, round-the-clock to ensure fair elections, according to K Rajamani.
