Coimbatore : Foresters and volunteers are fighting to put out a forest fire that spread from a nearby patta field near Maruthamalai today.
The fire that was caught in a patta land near forest fringes in Maruthamalai spread to the reserve and rapidly covered more forest ground. The fire had damaged motorcycles in patta land before entering the forest.
Foresters including RRT members and APWs from Thadagam and Thudiyalur were alerted and rushed to the spot to put out the fire. More than 20 people are involved fighting the fire and they have requested volunteers to join hands.
This is eighth forest fire incidence within a month in the Coimbatore Forest Division.
