Chennai: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has sent a notice seeking explanation from the DGP of Tamilnadu.

The Pollachi sexual abuse and extortion case has seen many rapid changes in the last 3 to 4 days. It rocked the vanity of the public when the publication Nakeeran released some shocking horror videos of abuse to the public to highlight the gruesome nature of the crime.

Since then the public pressure has been mounting heavily. The government scrambled into damage control and hastily arranged a press meet headed by SP Pandiarajan. It made matters worse as he concluded that only the 4 arrested people were involved and that only 4 videos were available in his custody. He also denied the need for Goondas Act to be applied to the accused. In the meantime, the complainant’s name was also released to the public by the police which is against all norms of investigation in such cases.

Following the outrage that night, the District Collector requested that the accused be booked under Goondas act. Soon after the case was transferred to CBCID.

Amidst all this, the NCW Chief Rekha Sharma has requested details and sent a notice to DGP TK Rajendran to explain the actions taken to ensure the safety of women and the prosecution of the accused.
