Coimbatore : The Thudiyalur police here have filed a first information report (FIR) against a man from Mettupalayam (MTP) on charges of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a minor girl. The man has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act along with kidnap and abuse.

The action follows the directions of Justice Sarvana Babu of Mettupalayam Criminal Court who issued directives today to the Police to initiate action on the basis of the petition and book the offender under POCSO act.
A 17-year-old minor girl from Mettupalayam was lured by her relative, Dhandapani who promised to marry her. He later took her unwillingly to New Delhi where he sexually abused her several times. The girl and the relative later returned to Salem and stayed in a friend's home. Shortly, the girl learnt the foul play of her relative and escaped from Salem to her home in Mettupalayam.
She revealed the happenings to her parents who were left devastated. The parents yet decided to seek the help of the justice system. However, the parents allege that despite filing a legal complaint on Dhandapani, the police did not take up the case for the past one month.
Hence, the parents petitioned to the Justice of the Criminal Court in MTP who today slapped POCSO on the offender.
