Earlier this morning, the public in Ooty found a bear roaming in the market area in the heart of Ooty town, following which they informed the forest department. The forest department immediately warned residents in the area to stay indoors. The District Collector, Innocent Divya inspected the spot.

After an ordeal of zeroing in on the bear's whereabouts, the bear was finally caught, after nearly eight hours. Speaking on this, Director of the Forest Department, Sreenivasan Reddy said, "Anesthesia has been injected into the male bear. It has fainted and will now be taken to the Mudumalai forest reserve in a cage.
