Chennai: Addressing the media at Chennai, Rahul Gandhi, President of Indian National Congress apprised that the slogan or the one-liner of the UPA for the upcoming Parliamentary elections would be in line with "Employment, Farmers and a Happy Prosperous United India".
Chennai: Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC) addressed a press conference in Chennai and hinted on the slogan or tagline of the UPA for the upcoming parliamentary elections. It bordered on 'Employment, Farmers and a Happy Prosperous United India.'
Rahul Gandhi began the press conference by questioning why PM Modi continues to boycott press conferences and taking public questions. He then went on to answer questions put forth by the media personnel on different aspects mostly pertaining to the State of Tamil Nadu.
Senior Journalist of BBC, Muralidharan questioned on UPA government's plan for education and if NEET would be revoked in Tamil Nadu. In response, the leader of INC assured that their government has plans to increase the education expenditure by 6 percent so that more facilities and betterment in the education sector can be introduced. He also pointed out that in the recent times, Vice Chancellors are not appointed based on experience but on their ideology. "Institutions are forced with right wing ideologies. To the contrary, the UPA government has great plans for enhancing higher education in the nation," he reiterated.
Clarifying on exemption for Tamil Nadu from NEET, Rahul Gandhi said, "We are flexible and hence can work out better plans that suit the welfare of the students in the State."
Rahul Gandhi alleged that the State of Tamil Nadu has not been ruled by the State government but by Narendra Modi. "The UPA government does not believe in controlling the States, as every one from the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, MLA and Panchayat leaders have a role to play in their fields in a decentralised democracy which is what our Government will be working towards," stated the Congress President. He was of the opinion that the dignity of the States should not be controlled by the Centre at any cost.
When asked on the delay in the release of the seven convicts in Rajiv Gandhi's assassination case, Rahul Gandhi reitrated that he and his family have had no role in the delay of their release. "The course of the judicial system will take its course," he said. "We, as a family have come to terms with the personal side of this issue and forgiven what has happened," said Rahul Gandhi.
