Coimbatore: Six persons, including a man, three women and two children were killed in a tragic car accident that took place in the wee hours of the morning, at around 1.30 am today at NH209 – Pollachi Udumalpet road.

A family of six people were returning home after visiting the Palani Murugan temple. They were travelling toward Coimbatore via Pollachi. Prakash, a resident of Coimbatore's Masakkalipayam was driving his brother Pannerselvam’s Nissan. Near the Pollachi PAP canal, Prakash reportedly lost control of the car and rammed into the parapet wall, adjacent to the road. The car fell into the canal and was completely submerged, killing all six persons in the vehicle.
The vehicle was hauled out of the canal with the help of a crane used by the Fire and Rescue service personnel and Gomangalam police around 6.15 am. The bodies of the deceased were recovered and shifted to the Pollachi Government Hospital around 7.15 am.

The deceased have been identified as R Prakash (44), a cable operator, his wife P Chitra (40), their daughter Pooja (8), Prakash’s sister Sumathi (46), Prakash’s sister-in-law P Latha(35), and her child Dharani (10).
In 2017, Jithin Joy, 24, Jackson, 21, and Amal, 20 from ernakulam died after their car plunged into the canal in Gedimedu, Pollachi.
