Coimbatore : The Mettupalayam Judicial Magistrate on Tuesday convicted four men for attempting to poach a wild elephant in Sirumugai Range in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore : The Mettupalayam Judicial Magistrate on Tuesday convicted four men for attempting to poach a wild elephant in Sirumugai Range in Coimbatore.

The court awarded the convicts M. Sentrayan, U. Siva, P. Kubendran and P. Singam all from Varasanadu in Theni District, three years of rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs. 10000 under Wild Life Protection Act, 1972.
A six month imprisonment with fine of Rs. 500 under Tamil Nadu Forest Act 1882 was also awarded to each the convicts.
They were initially booked by the foresters of Coimbatore division in 2011 for attempting to poach a wild elephant using stones and guns at Odanthurai in Sirumugai Forest Range here on 20.12.2011
While the men were immediately booked by foresters, they had bolted to Varasanadu after which a team from Coimbatore Division headed by Assistant Conservator of Forest C. Dinesh, who was the ranger of Boluvampati Range back then to nab the culprits. They were eventually arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
All of them were convicted and sent to the Coimbatore Central Prison.
Appreciations keep pouring in for the officials of the Coimbatore forest division for successfully nabbing the culprits.
