Ahead of elections, Arms holders asked to surrender weapons

Coimbatore: As the model code of conduct has come into effect, the district administration has asked all licensed gun owners to deposit their firearms with the police or authorised firearm security warehouses.

Coimbatore: As the model code of conduct has come into effect, the district administration has asked all licensed gun owners to deposit their firearms with the police or authorised firearm security warehouses.

Licence-holders are mandated to deposit their guns in their jurisdictional police stations before the elections. The firearms would be kept safe till the completion of the elections, the statement said. 

However, armed security guards involved in escorting vehicles carrying cash to banks and ATMs banks and government offices would be exempted. Stern action would be taken against those who violate the rule, the statement noted.
