Coimbatore : A press meet was convened by the District Collector K. Rajamani on Monday, to brief the media on the measures taken to ensure fair elections in the district which is to be held on April 18.
Coimbatore : A press meet was convened by the District Collector K Rajamani on Monday to brief the media on the measures taken to ensure fair elections are held in the district, on April 18.
“About 3072 polling booths have been identified in the district, out of which 470 booths have been announced as ‘sensitive’ and 117 as ‘very sensitive.’ Hence, additional police deployment in these booths have been arranged. 178 new booths have been added for the upcoming elections. Close to 13,000 officers and booth workers will work pre-poll and during the poll,” noted the Collector.
He also added that out of the 90 flying squad teams, three teams per booth will be allotted. Public can report violations on the toll free number 1950.
“All the political parties are advised to remove their hoardings and flex banners within 24 hours from today. A team of officials will monitor the progress and ensure 100 percent removal of all posters and banners. At the meeting convened with the representatives of political parties this morning, detailed instructions have been given on the rules of the Election Commission and strict implementation of the model code of conduct," reiterated the Collector.

He also apprised that those carrying cash above Rs.50,000 will have to produce proper source and receipts upon enquiry. Special election officers, Prasanna Ramasamy, District Revenue Officer, Rama Durai Murugan and others were present.
