Coimbatore : With Tamil Nadu all set to vote on April 18, Kamal Haasan has announced that his party Makkal Needhi Maiam will conduct interviews for all 1137 aspiring party members who evinced interest in contesting for the upcoming Lok Sabha election seats in TN.
The interviews for the members are being conducted today at the Makkal Needhi Maiam's headquarters in Chennai.
Dr. R Mahendran, Vice President of Makkal Needhi Maiam is likely to conduct the interviews along with Kamal Haasan. Of the 1137 members who have applied to contest in the elections, 40 candidates will be selected. Speaking at the party's lawyers' meeting held at the headquarters, Kamal Haasan said, "A lawyers' committee comprising of six lawyers will be formed for each parliamentary constituency, within two days."
Outlining the roles and responsibilities of the lawyers' committee, Kamal Haasan said, “The role of lawyers in Makkal Needhi Maiam party winning all 40 seats in TN is indispensable. They are pivotal in filing the nomination for the candidates, preventing distribution of money by other political parties, tackling the falsely fabricated cases filed on our party members by the ruling and opposition party and, helping the candidates understand and follow the election code of conduct."
