Coimbatore : Along with the Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission has also decided to hold by-polls for the 21 Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu on April 18.
With 18 MLAs disqualified by the Madras High Court in October 2018, under the anti-defection law for declaring their support to AMMK’s TTV Dhinakaran, the elections to these constituencies will also be held on April 18, the EC noted.
The election will be the first election without TN's colossal political figures Karunanidhi and Jayalalithaa. Out of the 234 assembly seats, elections will be held in 21 Assembly seats which would determine the governance of the AIADMK government in TN.
