Coimbatore : Actor turned politician Kamal Haasan's party Makkal Needhi Maiam has been alloted with 'Battery Torch' symbol to contest in the upcoming Lok Sabha election. The symbol was alloted by Election Commission of India on March 9.
As the election dates are to be announced today, earlier MNM had requested the ECI to allocate common symbol for the party for the upcoming election.
Following the announcement from the Election Commission, Party Founder Kamal Haasan has thanked the Election Commission for allocating the symbol.
"MNM thanks the Election commision for granting us the "Battery Torch" symbol for the forthcoming elections which is very appropriate for our party. Maiam will endeavour to be the “Torch-Bearer” for a new era in TN and Indian politics", expressed Maiam's official Twitter handle.
Earlier in February, Kamal Haasan had announced that the party will contest in all 40 seats including one Puducherry seat.
Since the inception of the party in 2018, Kamal Haasan's Maiam has been involved in many ground works including Grama Sabha and relief works during Gaja cyclone.
MNM has received around 1300 applications from aspiring party members to contest in the election in which around 200 application were from the West region.
