The Nilgiris : The long-pending plea of the people of Ward no:23 of Coonoor municipality has come to reality with the inauguration of a multi purpose 'Community Hall' in their area.
MLA Shanthi Ramu inaugurated the hall on Saturday which was built at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs -- 7 lakhs from MLA special fund and Rs. 3 lakhs has been contributed by the Coonoor municipality.

A majority of the people living in ward no:23 are from below poverty line and from oppressed castes. As they were unable to pay rents for private halls to conduct family functions, the residents had been requesting the municipality to build a community centre in their ward in which they can host their family functions and get togethers 'free of cost'.
Residents of Ward 23, Anna plantation Union Secretary, P. Jayaraman, Former Dairy department President, L. Mani and others were present during the inauguration.
