Coimbatore : As part of its Continuing Medical Education (CME) initiatives, KMCH regularly hosts conferences and conducts workshops for the benefit of the medical fraternity. With the objective to enhance knowledge and to keep pace with the latest developments in the field, KMCH has organized a first-of-its-kind conference in Coimbatore called ROBOCON 2019. The theme of Kovai’s first multi-disciplinary surgical conference was ‘Challenges and Opportunities in Robotic Assisted Surgery.’

The two-day conference being held at the KMCH Auditorium on March 9 and 10 is witnessing active and enthusiastic participation from leading medical professionals and delegates from all over India. The conference focused on the role of robotic surgery in general surgery, as well as the advanced robotic surgeries in urology, GI oncology and gynecology. High quality video demonstrations and robotic simulation exercise modules were the additional highlights of the conference.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Nalla G Palaniswami, Chairman, KMCH said that KMCH leads South India in robotic surgery and the hospital is proud to be on the forefront of cutting-edge medical technology. Thus far, the KMCH Robotic Surgery Team has performed over 200 surgeries. The Chairman appreciated the efforts and contribution of renowned faculties with wide experience who explained in detail both the ‘why’ and ‘how’ on robotic surgery. He thanked all the delegates and the organizing team for the success of the conference.

The Kovai Medical Center and Hospital, a 1200-bed leading multi-specialty hospital group in Coimbatore has been known for its pioneering efforts in introducing innovative medical technologies that benefit patients. In keeping with the tradition of innovations, KMCH took the lead and introduced the state-of-the-art robotic surgery in Coimbatore.

Robotic Surgery is an alternative to both traditional open surgery and minimally invasive laparoscopy, where the surgeon at the surgical console gets the high-definition 3D image of the surgical site and uses instruments like precise projection of surgeon’s hands with flexibility impossible by human hands. With less blood loss, minimally invasive, less scars and faster cure, the robotic surgery comes as a relief to patients at a cost on par with laparoscopic surgeries.
