Coimbatore : The CII, Southern Region conducted a summit on CSR experience and impact with focus on "Reviving innovative and successful models for sustainable tomorrow," in the city, today.
Coimbatore : The CII, Southern Region conducted a summit on CSR experience and impact with focus on "Reviving innovative and successful models for sustainable tomorrow," in the city, today. The summit had various sessions focusing on various aspects of CSR activities including social and civic responsibility and economic implications of CSR.
Speaking at the event, Minister S P Velumani requested the corporate sector to contribute to the "Housing for All" scheme. "Our government is doing everything possible to implement the scheme. But if corporates can contribute, more people from the poorer sections of the society will be benefited. Recently, ACC constructed 100 houses for the poor. A house is a lifetime dream for people from poorer sections.
If the corporates can help in such a project, there will be more beneficiaries," stated the Minister. He also spoke about the various projects coming up in Coimbatore which will lead to industrial development and generate more employment. S P Velumani mentioned about the 400 acre CODISSIA industrial park project, extension of the defence corridor and the airport expansion plan for which Rs.75 crores had been given to land owners as the first instalment.
B K Krishnaraj Vanaravarayar, Chairman, Kumaraguru College of Technology, in his special address talked about the Gandhian economy and how Coimbatore corporates have contributed to the development of the city. He mentioned how various people and companies like Rathnasabapathy Mudaliar, PSG Groups, LMW and SNR contributed to the city's growth and development.
Ravi Sam, Chairman, Sustainability, CSR and Affirmative Action sub-committee, Southern Region, Jairam Varadaraj, Managing Director, Elgi Equipments, H Jayaram, Co-chairman, CSR sub-committee and Farhad Forbes, Chairman, CII National Task force on affirmative action and Co-chairman were also present at the event.
