According to police, people from the Kerbetta village in Kotagiri have been opposing the erection of cell phone towers in their village. Meanwhile, the police had arrested a person, Kumar of the same village.
Following this, people from the village protested at the Kotagiri police station on Thursday night, seeking the release of Kumar alleging that a fake case had been registered against him.
During the protest, they also sought action against the private company which is reportedly erecting the cell phone tower in the village. The furore prevailed at the Kotagiri police station for nearly three hours.
The DSP, Krishnamoorthy has assured the protesters that action will be taken against the private firm, after which the protesters dispersed from the spot.
