Coimbatore : The Coimbatore District Home guards is a 15,000 member strong organization with members hailing from various backgrounds. They render yeomen service by supporting the Police department in assisting them in various activities like night patrol, bandobust during festivities and VIP arrivals.
Coimbatore : The Coimbatore District Home guards is a 15,000 member strong organization with members hailing from various backgrounds. They render yeomen service by supporting the Police department in assisting them in various activities like night patrol, bandobust during festivities and VIP arrivals.
Yesterday, the Coimbatore District Home guards had new appointments at the top. Balaji Raju took charge as the Area Commander of the Coimbatore District Home guards and Vidhyasree Dharmaraj took charge as the Deputy Area Commander. They have taken charge again after stepping down earlier.
Coimbatore District Home guards comprises of 387 uniformed personnel in three units – Mettupalayam, Thudiyalur and Pollachi. The officers are detailed at the time of festivities, night patrolling duties, and also also during natural disasters.
The new Commanders met West Zone IG Periaiah who wished them the best as Coimbatore prepares itself for the election season in April and May.
