Coimbatore : The Mettupalayam national highway is soon to be transformed into a four-lane road at the cost of Rs.14.95 crores.

The 40 km stretch of the Mettupalayam national highway connects Coimbatore with Nilgiris. Accidents on this highway have claimed many lives. Thousands of vehicles ply on this two-lane road, everyday.
Heeding the request from motorists and public to convert the highway into a four-lane road, expansion work is to begin on the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam road. As part of this, work commenced today on the Karamadai-Mettupalayam road. The road will be renovated at an estimated cost of Rs.14.95 crores. MP A K Selvaraj, MLA O K Chinnaraj and other government officials participated in the 'bhoomi pooja' event held today.
