Coimbatore : The 16th annual day function of the Government Music College ‘Tamilisai Vizha' was held at the college yesterday. The function was presided over by the District Collector, Rasamani.
After inaugurating the function, the District Collector said, "Music college has been opened in Coimbatore, next only to Thiruvaiyaru in Madurai and Chennai. Music always has a special place in our hearts because it gives us peace. In the modern world, where students have keen interest toward science and engineering, I appreciate students who have come forward to learn music, which is a part of our culture and tradition.
Students who have enrolled to this college with an aim to achieve in the music field in the current scenario truly need to be commended. These students should also add pride to our State of Tamil Nadu by preserving our culture," he reiterated.
The Government Music College has been functioning in Coimbatore for 16 years. Only UG programs are currently available in this college. Measures are being taken to operate buses to the college both in the mornings and evenings, to offer RO Plant and to open specialised music departments for Nadhasvaram, Thavizh and Pullangulal.
