Coimbatore : Security has been beefed up at Tamil Nadu-Kerala border since the two Maoists who sustained injuries in a gunfire exchange with the police at a private lodge in Vythiri of Wayanad, Kerala yesterday, could anytime head to the hospitals on the Tamil Nadu border for treatment.

According to reports, Maoists entered a private lodge at Vythiri of Wayanad, Kerala last night and threatened people there at gunpoint, demanding money. On information, the Kerala police rushed to the spot and opened fire against the Maoists. While one Maoist who has been identified later as T P Jaleel was killed during the exchange of fire, two other Maoists were said to have sustained injuries.

However, they managed to escape from the spot. Security has been tightened at the Tamil Nadu border following the incident and the Tamil Nadu Police are keeping a strict vigil at checkpoints and forest areas adjoining the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border in Coimbatore district. Vehicles from Kerala are being allowed into Tamil Nadu only after a thorough checking at the border.
