Coimbatore : In the Swachh Survekshan survey which ranks cities based on cleanliness, Coimbatore has gone down by 24 places when compared to it's last year rankings.
Coimbatore : In the Swachh Survekshan survey which ranks cities based on cleanliness, Coimbatore has gone down by 24 places when compared to it's last year rankings.
Last year, the City stood at 16th rank, while this year the City has managed to earn only the 40th position.
In Tamil Nadu, Coimbatore has secured the 2nd position, leaving Trichy secure the first place. In the overall ranking, Trichy has secured 39th rank.
Speaking on this CCMC Commissioner J. Shravan Kumar said "It's shocking to know that Coimbatore has declined to the 40th rank from 16, last year. All the Smart City projects are ongoing and as majority of them are big projects, it would take time for completion. We guess that factor might have affected the rank”.
Shravan kumar further stated that he is confident of getting coimbatore to the top 10 ranking next year. “ This year the major work undertaken was in lake restoration which could not be completed in one year. So when the survey was taken it was all “ work in progress”.
So we slipped in our ranking. With due credit to the cities which have come as top ranking , many cities took up small projects which could be completed within a year. But ours being big projects we could not complete in one year time frame. All this contributed to our lower rankbut next year we will achieve a much higher rank probably in the top 10” added the CCMC commissioner.
Shravan kumar further stated that he is confident of getting coimbatore to the top 10 ranking next year.

To the contrary, our projects are all long term and consuming. Next year, we will achieve a much higher rank probably in the top 10” added the CCMC Commissioner.
