A 15-year-old Mayflower tree which was on the verge on uprooting was noted by a few public who with the help of policemen fell it down without any causalities.
According to a public, "This evening, the tree suddenly began uprooting. Upon information, Ramanathapuram Traffic Assitant Inspector Venkatachalam, Special Asst Inspector, Shanmugham and Ramar arrived to the spot and stopped the traffic and saved the lives of the public especially motorists'.
If precautionary measures were not taken, the incident could have caused injury to many motorists and pedestrians, the public opined.
The public have also urged the Public works department to cut down old trees on Trichy road which are on the verge of uprooting.
Later, the fire and rescue department arrived to the spot and removed the tree from the road.
