The Nilgiris : The Vice-Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Caste (NCS), L Murugan issued identity cards to unorganized workers under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan (PM-SYM) scheme in Nilgiris.
After issuing identity cards to unorganized workers in the event held at the Nilgiris District Collectorate, L Murugan said, " The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Modi at Ahmedabad in Gujarat, today. Various schemes have been implemented by the Centre in last five years. Domestic production in India relies on the hard work of 42 crore unorganized workers.

All these unorganized workers were ensured medical aid through Ayushman Bharat scheme. Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana scheme for life insurance and Prime Minister Suraksha Beema Yojana for differently-abled are also being implemented by the Central Government. Unorganized workers between 18 and 40 years age with a monthly income of Rs.15,000 are eligible for this scheme and can avail the benefits if they pay the installments regularly."
"Unorganized workers who are about to join under this scheme should pay a small amount as monthly installment which will avail them Rs.3000 pension, every month, once they cross 60 years. Even after their demise, 50 percent of the pension will be provided to the spouse.
According to an NSSR survey 2011-2012, there are 42 crore unorganized workers in India among which 25 crore belong to the age group of 18-40 and 8-12 crore unorganized workers are in the age group of 25-35 and these will benefit from this scheme," he added.
Later, L Murugan distributed identity cards to 10 beneficiaries in the presence of the District Collector, Innocent Divya.
