About 9.86 lakh kg of tea is reported to have come in for sales at the Coonoor tea auction. This includes 6.23 lakh kg of leaf variety and 3.66 lakh kg of dust variety. A total of 9.12 lakh kg of tea has been sold at the auction, accounting to Rs. 9.16 crores which is 93 percent of the total sale.

The highest rate for CTC variety is Rs.272 per kg and Rs.262 per kg for the orthodox variety. The average cost for leaf variety was at Rs.84 and Rs.90 per kg, and Rs.130-140 per kg for high quality tea. The dust variety was sold at Rs.85-90 per kg, whereas the higher quality dust was sold between Rs.128-145.
Prices of all varieties sold at this auction are Rs.2 higher than that of the previous auction. In the auction to be held on March 7 and 8, about 9.29 lakh kg of tea is expected to be brought for auction.
