Coimbatore : The Coimbatore Corporation, for the third financial year in a row (2019-20) presented a surplus budget.
Coimbatore : The Coimbatore Corporation, for the third financial year in a row (2019-20) presented a surplus budget. Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer J Shravan Kumar presented the budget today with a surplus of Rs. 4.74 crores. Last financial year (2018-19), the Corporation had shown a surplus of Rs. 17.74 crores.
The CCMC Commissioner presented the budget in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner Prasanna Ramasamy, City Engineer R Lakshmanan and officials from the engineering, health, town planning, accounts and revenue departments.
The total revenue for the 2019-20 financial year is to be Rs.181767.98 lakhs and the total expenditure is at Rs.181293.34 lakhs.
Highlights of the budget
* The Corporation has undertaken sprucing up of three lakes under the Smart Cities Mission. In the first phase, Selva Chinthamani Kulam will be rejuvenated at a cost of Rs.16 crores. Restoration and rejuvenation of Narasampathy, Krishnampathy, Selvampathy and Kumarasamy lakes will be undertaken at a cost of Rs. 25 crores.
* 3.6 Mw solar power plant will be installed at a cost of 9.5 crore in the first phase, in addition to two 1 Mw solar power plants at Ukkadam STP.
* Under decentralized solid waste management, 69 micro composting centres will be developed. In the first phase, 10 MCCs at a cost of Rs.11.62 crores was allotted and work is under progress. In the second phase, 59 MCCs will be constructed at a cost of Rs 18.63 crores.
* Under the Smart City scheme, a bio-mining plant will be built at Vellalore dump yard at a cost of Rs.24.21 crores. This will reduce the burden of the Vellalore dump yard which is processing waste beyond its capacity.
* An indoor stadium will be inaugurated at G.V.Residency for which Rs.5 crores has been allotted.
* Under the Amrut sub mission scheme Rs.25 crores has been allotted for the restoration of Kurichi Kulam. The lake which is under PWD will be handed over to the Corporation, with the process underway.
* On the education front, special classes for Vedic mathematics will be conducted using trained teachers for which Rs.15 lakhs has been allotted.
* As a part of the on-going anti-plastic drive, 5 green kiosks will be opened at the 5 zonal offices for which 10 lakhs has been allotted.
* Two mobile 'pink toilets' exclusively meant for women will be built, with Rs.50 lakhs will be allotted for this.
* Under the Smart City scheme, the 'model road' project is underway at D.B.Road and tender will be soon called for T.V.Samy Road.
The Commissioner also mentioned that an agreement has been made with GIZ, a German company, for conducting studies on climate change. The first study will be conducted in Coimbatore, apart from Pune and Bhubaneshwar. "Public grievance redressal is the first priority. CCMC will work toward creating a mechanism involving all social media and call centres for grievance redressal similar to customer care at corporates," stated the Commissioner.
