Coimbatore : In a tragic accident, a man in his 50’s was fatally attacked by a wild elephant near his home Gandhinagar in Ettimadai near Madukkarai Forest Range here.
The victim identified as M. Velusamy was returning to his home around 2.00 am when he reportedly encountered the wild elephant that was roaming with a calf.
Before he could scurry into safety, the animal attacked him and he succumbed on the spot. His mortal remains were later taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
The department would be handing over an interim compensation of Rs. 50,000 to his family.
