Coimbatore : The Deputy Superintendent of Police (Pollachi sub-division) Jayaraman has categorically stated that stern action will be taken against Thirunavukkarasu, the mastermind of the gang behind the extortion racket through sexual harassment blackmail of several college girls in Pollachi.
With an intent to gain monetary rewards, a gang in Pollachi had been blackmailing women with obscene photographs of them. The news triggered shock waves among the public, since many women in Pollachi had been deceived in a similar pattern by the gang which has been operating in Pollachi for the past several years.
The network was busted recently, after a woman lodged a complaint with the Pollachi police that she was blackmailed for cash by her lover with obscene pictures. A special police team headed by Pollachi Police Inspector Jayaraman had been formed to nab the main suspect in the case Thirunavukkarasu who had absconded. Meanwhile, the special police team arrested Thirunavukkarasu near Makkinampetti in Pollachi, on Tuesday.
Addressing the media, Jayaraman said, "Stern action will be taken against these offenders who deceived many women. During investigation, it was revealed that Thirunavukkarasu had been involved in such activities even from his college days. We have also recovered two cell phones from him. He has also confessed that only four had been involved in this crime.
He had also attempted to mislead and divert the issue by releasing photos, videos and audios on social websites during the period that he had absconded. We have sent the recovered videos to the lab to confirm the veracity."
Thirunavukkarasu was taken to the Pollachi Government Hospital for medical tests, following which he has been lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison after being produced at the Pollachi Court.
