Coimbatore: A team led by the Pollachi Police Inspector Jayaram arrested Thirunavakarasu, the main suspect in a gang that was extorting women in Pollachi with obscene photographs taken of them by befriending them on social media.
With a clear intent to gain monetarily, a gang in Pollachi blackmailed women with obscene photographs of them, thus triggering shock waves among the public. Hundreds of women had been deceived in a similar pattern by the gang which had been operating in Pollachi for the past several years. Speculations are rife that the men involved in the gang could be backed by politicians and industrialists, since the police booked the culprits under ordinary sections of the law.
The network was busted recently, after a woman lodged a complaint with the Pollachi Police that she was blackmailed for cash by her lover who had taken obscene pictures of her. During interrogation with the person, the police found that it was a network of people that were indulging in such criminal activities, targeting school and college-going girls.
A special police team led by the Pollachi Police Inspector Jayaram had been formed to nab the main suspect in the case Thirunavukkarasu who had absconded. Meanwhile, the special police team has now arrested Thirunavukkarasu near Makkinampetti in Pollachi today.
