The Nilgiris: The head of the TN Cauvery Farmers’ Association is on a state wide trip to meet with farmers across the state to understand their grievances and requirements. During this campaign, members of the association have been distributing pamphlets and notices which explain the farmers’ plight.

As part of this trip, he was here in Ooty today. Members of the association distributed pamphlets and notices in ATC Ground. After this, he met the press where he said that “PWD has earmarked 463 places in TN where there are chances of disasters due to depletion of ground water resources. Such is the precarious condition of our water resources and the condition is no different in the Nilgiris. The increase of buildings in Ooty has jeopardised the waterways thus affecting the ground water levels.

The Western Ghats is the source of water for the Nilgiris and the governments at the center and state have to ensure more trees are planted in the Ghats.”
He also said that “Govt has to fix the price of tea at Rs. 150 per kilo and that is the only way that tea farmers will get Rs. 30 per kilo.”
