Coimbatore: With the star studded Maha Sivarathiri celebrations of Isha Yoga Foundation all set to begin in a few hours in the presence of the President of India Ram Nath Kovind, the Coimbatore Forest Division has announced that it would not take responsibility for any human casualties to the attendees caused by wild elephants either inside or outside the nearby reserve.
In a letter to the organisation dated 18th of February, District Forest Officer (DFO) D. Venkatesh has further stated that the department would not compensate, if any damage is caused by elephants to the attendees or organisers of the event.
“The organisation should set up watch towers in important areas in their property and monitor elephant movements in the vicinity. A minimum of four persons should be stationed there. Temporary solar fences should also be put near the forest boundary,” the DFO has said.
He has further advised them to not use high powered lights and high decibel speakers as the area is very close to forest. Activities including firing crackers and other related acts have been ruled out by the DFO.
Advising the attendees to not use the Mullankadu forest road, he has also warned them to not enter the nearby Bolampatti block II reserve. The organisation has also been advised to clean the plastic and other wastes if left in the area by attendees.
“The summer has already begun and animals are moving in search of water and food. It is inevitable that they could venture out of the reserve and cause damage to people and property. People should act wisely,” the letter by DFO read.
