Coimbatore : A 49-year-old farmer was today injured by a wild elephant in the catchment area of Bhavanisagar Reservoir near Sirumugai here.
Coimbatore : A 49-year-old farmer was today injured by a wild elephant in the catchment area of Bhavanisagar Reservoir near Sirumugai here.
The victim Murugesan from Sittepalayam was returning on a motorcycle along with his son Thangaraj from the reservoir after fishing in the reservoir.
While returning via a mud road close to the reserve, they had reportedly encountered an elephant herd that chased them. Murugesan had fell down from the vehicle and was later reportedly injured by a tusker from the herd.
His son Thangaraj had managed to get help from the nearby village and he was taken to the Mettupalayam Government hospital where he is being treated.
Meanwhile, foresters have advised villagers to not venture nearby forests as wild animals would be moving out in search of water.
