Shanthiniketan Group and Rotary Coimbatore Zenith launches 20,000 trees mega project at Shanti Vanam

Coimbatore : As part of their environmental protection program, the Rotary Coimbatore Zenith, in association with the Shantiniketan Group of Companies, launched a mega project of planting 20,000 tree seedlings on March 3, 2019 at Shanti Vanam, Billichi, Karamadai. This is sponsored entirely by the Shantiniketan Group.

Coimbatore : As part of their environmental protection program, the Rotary Coimbatore Zenith, in association with the Shantiniketan Group of Companies, launched a mega project of planting 20,000 tree seedlings on March 3, 2019 at Shanti Vanam, Billichi, Karamadai. This is sponsored entirely by the Shantiniketan Group. 



 

Shanti Vanam, a 132-acre property on Mettupalayam Road is owned by the Shantiniketan Group of Companies, under the governance of the trustees, Jayanthilal G Bafna and Arunkumar G Bafna. It is a well-established business group for the last few decades, with its activities spread over textile, construction and other fields. Arun Bafna says this is just the beginning. His target is 2,00,000 trees and the next phase will be for about 30,000 trees. 



 

The project was inaugurated by the District Governor Rtn. A V Pathy by planting a seedling. He was the chief guest of the formal meeting in which the Shanti Vanam trustees were honoured with the GEM OF COIMBATORE Award. A V Pathy conferred the awards. In his address, the District Governor Rotarian appreciated the effort taken by the Rotary Zenith in identifying the appropriate people to join hands with, in their social endeavours. 



He hoped that the planting of the 20,000 seedlings was only a beginning, and that the number would increase considerably in the days to come. He also expressed his hope that other Rotary Clubs will get motivated and take up similar projects in protecting and preserving nature.



 

The awardees Jayanthilal G Bafna and Arunkumar G Bafna were introduced by T C Chitra and by the President Rtn. Raviraj respectively. The Appreciation Award was presented to Senthilvel, Technical Advisor of the Project by the A V Pathy. Other speakers of the day were Rtn. Gokulraj and Rtn. Sathishkumar. The meeting was also attended by Dr. Partiban of Agriculture Forest College.
