Tirupur : MP Sathyabama of Tirupur constituency has urged the Union Minister, Nitin Gadkari for constructing over bridge/underpass in the stretch near Tirupur of the Salem-Cochin-Kanyakumari road (NH-47).
"In Tiruppur Constituency, this NHAI Road spread from 59/0 km to 102/0 km between Lakshminagar (Bhavani) to Chengapalli was executed in phase I and traffic commenced from August 2009.
Out of the 22 major junctions, only 8 junctions have been provided with road over bridges. The remaining 14 major junctions had been left without any bridge. Due to this heavy traffic congestion and more than 300 fatal accidents have been reported, in the past 4 years.
Hence, to ensure safety of the life of people of nearby villages, over bridges need to be built at:
1. At Km 78/4 with cross road of Perundurai - Kanjikovil - Govindhapadi.
2. At Km 80/8 with cross road of Perundurai - Thudupathy - Makkinamkombai.
3. At Km 89/10 with cross road of Kolathupalayam - Vijayamangalam.
4. At Km 79/4 with cross road of Perundurai - Pethampalayam - Kanjikovil", according to a statement from the MP.
"In addition to this, at the Vijayamangalam Toll Plaza - Perundurai, two wheelers do not have an option to cross the other side. Hence, constructing a Road Over Bridge or Under Pass, whichever is possible at the earliest will help the people at large", the MP urged.
Replying to the MP's request, NHAI has stated that a letter has been sent from DPR consultant ‘M/s. K&J Projects in Pvt. Ltd in Association with 'COS Consultancy Services' for studying feasibility in construction of an underpass at the requested locations and for including those locations in the ongoing DPR for widening of the existing 4-lane stretch to 6/8 lane from Km 0/000 to Km 102/035 of Salem to Chengapalli section of NH-544 (Old NH-47) vide reference 3 cited.
The DPR consultant after studying feasibility has informed vide reference 4th cited that VUP may be considered at Km 78/4, Km 80/8 & Km 89/10 and as the locations Km 79/4 & Km 88/100 are falling within 1Km from Km 78/4 & Km 89/10 respectively, service road may be formed at these junctions connecting the proposed VUP at Km 78/4 and Km 89/10.
