Minister for Municipal Administration, SP Velumani laid the foundation stone and addressed the public at the Government higher secondary school in Valparai where he distributed welfare schemes for the beneficiaries.
Foundation stone was also laid to build 112 apartment type houses for the public.
Speaking to the public, the Minister said, "In a bid to develop eco-tourism and create more employment opportunities to the locals in Valparai, our State government has approved for a botanical garden and boat house in Valparai. Due to lack of these destinations, the tourist footfalls have been very sparse in Valparai, owing to which the terrain witnessed only less development".
The Minister also recalled that it was during Amma's period, the tea estate workers were accorded fair pay.
Irrespective of Valparai being at the far end of Coimbatore constituency, the plea of people to develop the region has always been on cards and our concern. To prove this, our Chief Minister Edapadi K Palanisamy has increased the pay of tea estate workers by Rs. 5 effective from today.
