Coimbatore : To commemorate the upcoming Women's day and celebrate women empowerment, FICCI ( Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) FLO (FICCI Ladies Organisation) honoured lieutenant commander of the Indian Navy, P. Swathi at an event held here on Saturday.

For successfully completing eight month-long toughest journey on rough waters, lieutenant commander of the Indian Navy, P. Swathi was honored at 'Sadhana' an event to celebrate Women's day on Saturday at Hotel Residency Towers.
"There should not be any gender barriers in services and women could reach any heights and they can handle things with confidence", she said.
Lt. Cmr. P Swathi is one among the six women team to become the first all-woman military team and the first Asian women’s team to circumnavigate the globe in INSV Tarini.
Detailing on her journey, she said "It was really hard 254 days at the sea for this six women team which covered around 21,600 nautical miles at the deep sea facing extreme weather conditions (40 degree to -5 degree), wind speed from 0 to 130 Kilometres per hour and wave height ranging from 0 to 9 meters".
Her voyage started on September 10 2017 from Goa and returned back to Goa on May 21, 2018.
Pinky Reddy, National President of FICCI FLO hailed FICCI FLO's Coimbatore for their works and achievements and she stated that Coimbatore chapter is one of the oldest chapter and was started in 1992.
Others present at the event were Jayanthi Manohar Chair person, FLO Coimbatore Chapter, Commodore Rajiv Chowdhry - Commanding Officer INS Agrani and members of FLO Coimbatore.
