The Nilgiris : Residents of Kumaran Nagar, Parasuram Nagar, VP Nagar, Velankanni Nagar of Coonoor Municipality allege that they are forced to buy water from private companies to meet their drinking water requirements due to the irregular supply of water.

The irked residents point that irrespective of adequate availability of water in Ralliah dam, which is one of the primary sources of drinking water to the town, drinking water has been supplied only every 20-25 days.

“We receive water once every 20-25 days. And, the water is released only during night times, which makes it even worker", said one of the resident.

Commenting on the allegation, one of the official from Municipality said "As summer is nearing, the water level in Ralliah dam is slowly decreasing. Presently, the water level at the dam is 36 feet against the full capacity of 43 feet. We are adjusting the water supply schedule in order to meet the summer crisis".

He also noted that "For the past two days, the catchment area at Ralliah dam is experiencing moderate rainfall. If this situation continues, we will adjust the water supply cycle".
